WNAM MONITORING: On his first day in the White House, US President-elect Donald Trump is preparing to sign more than 100 executive orders, covering border security, deportations, and other key political priorities, American news website Axios reported.
According to the outlet, Trump and his top advisers outlined plans for 100 executive orders during a meeting with US Senate Republicans on Wednesday night.
Two sources told Axios that senators were shown previews of some of the 100 executive orders Trump plans to issue.
Stephen Miller, Trump’s immigration adviser, outlined border security and immigration measures that are expected to be implemented on day 1.
According to the report, Trump plans to use the 287(g) provision of the US Immigration and Nationality Act to bolster support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) while continuing the construction of the US-Mexico border wall.
Reinstating Title 42 is also said to be a key part of the border plan, according to multiple sources, the report claims.
Title 42, a US public health law, was invoked by Trump during the COVID-19 pandemic to expel migrants at the US-Mexico border without allowing them to seek asylum, citing the need to prevent the spread of the virus.
Millions of expulsions under Title 42 occurred from the start of the COVID-19 pandemic until President Biden ended the policy in 2023.
The report notes that it’s uncertain if all will be technical executive orders or if broader actions will be taken by Trump or federal agencies.
Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th US president on Jan. 20, 2025, at the US Capitol, beginning his second term in office.
