Trump’s Gaza plan sparks global outrage

By Dr. Shahid Hashmat

President Trump, during his second presidency, plans and wishes to do many surprising and unprecedented actions. He is basically a real estate developer and not a politician, what to talk of a statesman.  Well, he is an elected President of the United States and has the right to make any policy shift that is allowed under the U.S. law and constitution. How maverick, unconventional and eccentric he may be, he can not  behave like a global monarch, which, of course, he not. In the existing world order, the U.S. enjoy great power that allows its President to exercise enormous political, diplomatic, economic, and military influence across the globe. But any national leader must understand that each  dimension and facet of power has a limit as well. During his recent press conferee, along with Israeli Prime Minister, Netanyahu, in the  White House, on February 4, 2025, Trump has sent shock waves of titanic magnitude, causing consternation and resentment in the world, by suggesting that the US would take over and own Gaza, resettling its population in neighbouring Arab states.

During his inaugural speech, on 20 January, Trump gave the impression that ceasefire accord between Israel and Hamas was concluded due his ultimatum, which may be partially correct. He boosted: “one day before I assumed office, the hostages in the Middle East are coming back home to their families.” He claimed that his  proudest legacy would be that of a peacemaker and unifier. More shocking for the world was Trump’s ambition, expressed on 7 January 2025 as president-elect, for  annexing Canada, seizing the Panama Canal by force, and acquiring Greenland from Denmark, even  through an American military action. All such announcements, though not unexpected, were a source of great dismay and alarm for the world that expected the U.S to respect the spirit of the U.N. Charter and the international law as a responsible global power.

The most shocking announcement of President Trump was about Gaza, which has been completely destroyed,  demolished, ruined, rather pulverized by Israel in the last 18 months brutal war against Palestinians. While answering a question in the press conference, Trump said: “As far as Gaza is concerned, we’ll do what is necessary. If it’s necessary, we’ll do that. We’re going to take over that piece and we’re going to develop it, create thousands and thousands of jobs.” When asked if he was talking about a permanent occupation of Gaza, Trump replied: “I do see a long-term ownership position, and I see it bringing great stability to that part of the Middle East.” With complete lack of remorse and empathy, Trump boosted: “And everybody I’ve spoken to — this was not a decision made lightly — everybody I’ve spoken to loves the idea of the United States owning that piece of land, developing, and creating thousands of jobs with something that will be magnificent in a really magnificent area that nobody would know.”

Netanyahu reaffirmed Trump’s plan to take over Gaza by saying that Israel’s goal was to make sure that Gaza never poses a threat to Israel again. He said that President Trump was taking it to a much higher level as he saw a different future for that piece of land that had been the focus of so much terrorism. What a logic to support Trump’s immoral ambition to snatch Gaza’s land from Palestinians who have been deprived of their inalienable right to possess a sovereign states on a centuries old land of their ancestors.

About the fate of two million Gazans, who have lost more than 47,00 innocent lives during last 18 months with more than 150,000 injured and having faced total destruction of infrastructure; hospitals, schools, nad houses, Trumps said that  the Gaza Strip had been a hellhole for people living there, therefore, they should leave Gaza and  move to Egypt, and Jordan. Later on,  Netanyahu,   joking, suggested the establishment of a Palestinian state on Saudi territory. The Palestine Issue is on the agenda of the United Nations since 1948. it is fact that the UN has been totally outmaneuvered and made redundant during recent phase of the Conflict. Trump was asked would the relocation of Palestinians to other countries not mean abandoning the concept of two-state solution?. He replied: “It doesn’t mean anything about a two-state or a one-state or any other state.” He also blatantly told a lie that he had spoken to other leaders of countries in the Middle East, who loved the idea and said that it would really bring stability. This claim was totally denied by all leaders of Middle East, including President of Egypt, King of Jordan, and Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.

Such outrageous and offensive proposal by Trump speaks of his sick mentality. He sees every global issue from the prism of a real estate tycoon. It also shows his total lack understanding of human history. His second tenure will be over in four years. By floating or even forcibly implementing such ludicrous and absurd ideas he may please his Christian-Jewish-Zoinst admirers. He may also get his name added to the infamous list of previous crusaders, conceivers of  the Sykes-Picot Agreement and Balfour Declaration, destroyers of Ottoman Empire, framers of British and French mandate in Middle East, and grabbers of holy land owned by Palestinians through deceit, deception, and brutal force, but he can never be remember as ‘peacemaker and unifier’ as he claimed during his inauguration ceremony.

If Trump wishes to move back to pre-Westphalian  era, he must not forget that the U.K., though too weak and an ally of the U.S. at present, may reclaim many U.S. states or France may to like renegotiate ‘Louisiana Territory’ deal, including U.S. States of  Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado. Similarly, Mexico may like to get New Mexico back. After all it was admitted to the Union as the 47th state as late as January 1912. Trump must not forget that if Russia also adopts pre-Wespahlian approach, it may like to reclaim Alaska by paying  an amount of US $7.2 million with interest since 1867.

International Court of Justice, International Criminal Courts, the UN, UN Human Right Council and many international human rights institutions have clearly declared that military operations conducted by Israel are tantamount to committing war crimes, including  genocide and ethnic cleansing. The UN has assessed that around 70 percent of Gaza has been completely destroyed, causing enormous difficulties for human habitation. Moreover, there are mountains of debris and large number of unexploded ordnance / munition buried under the debris. In fact, everything stands destroyed. There is no water, no electricity, sanitation, no food and no medicines. Under such dismal and pathetic conditions, everyone, especially Gazans, expect the international community, including all big powers, to extend generous economic and technical help to rebuild Gaza. Most of the help should come from Muslim countries, especially oil rich Arab states, who did nothing to stop naked massacre and genocide of their Muslim brethren in Gaza. Now, they can atone  their collective sins of being accomplices to such crimes against humanity and Palestinians.

More than 140 members of the U.N., over 75% of all UN members, including eleven EU member states,  recognize the State of Palestine. It has been a non-member observer state of the United Nations General Assembly since November 2012. The whole world must resolutely and decisively refute Trump’s malicious, vicious and wicked plan of converting Palestinian land of Gaza into a ‘The US Gaza Revirea’. They must also demand immediate accession of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine as full UN member. For Muslims: though most their rulers are the U.S. stooges, and their vulturous and predatory elite has repeatedly betrayed Palestine cause,  they must steadfastly stand with their Gazan brethren. They should forces their governments to  generous offer much needed   resources for reconstruction of Gaza, including construction houses, hospital, schools, mosques, etc. and restoration of electricity and water facilitates in such a manner that Gaza Palestinians  must not look towards any assistance from non-Muslims. Similarity, access of humanitarian assistance, including food, medicine, water etc. must be ensured to two million displaced and bruised people of Gaza. They must stop the ultimate Christain-Jewish-Zoinist Crusade against Gaza.

A well coordinated and integrated initiative to revive Gaza’s economy should also launched, Indeed, Islamic Development Bank, in close collaboration with central banks of all Muslim countries, European Bank, Asian Development Bank, BRICS’ The New Development Bank, and China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) involving several banks, including the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), China Development Bank (CDB), and China Exim Bank etc., should launch an ‘International Fund for Reconstruction of Gaza’.

The world conscience must speak out and humanity must do its best to harness the fascist, immoral, and evil plans of Trump and Netanyau to eliminate all Gazan Palestinians through ethnic cleansing and by capturing and occupying their land under highly deceptive and deceitful plan of developing Gaza as the U.S  Revirea.
