WNAM REPORT: On March 4-5, the Uzbekistan delegation, including leaders of relevant ministries and agencies, are holding meetings in Vienna to strengthen cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The President of Uzbekistan put forward the initiative.
The meetings aim to define priority areas of collaboration with the IAEA.
Discussions focused on support for national radiation and nuclear safety projects, implementing international safety standards in Uzbekistan, and cooperation with the Uzatom Agency to enhance expertise in atomic energy and workforce training.
Special attention was given to initiatives such as the Atoms4Food program. As part of this project, discussions focused on innovative solutions using nuclear technologies to enhance agricultural and livestock productivity, improve natural resource management, ensure food safety, and develop mechanisms for climate change adaptation.
Additionally, further discussions will cover aspects of establishing a center under the “Ray of Hope” project to improve cancer prevention and treatment, the development of scientific research at the Institute of Nuclear Physics, food security issues, and the annual meeting of the Coordination Group for Uranium Legacy Sites.
Discussions are also planned on implementing the IAEA International School project, and a panel session will take place during Uzbekistan Energy Week.
According to the Uzatom Agency, the delegation’s visit is ongoing. These meetings will help elevate Uzbekistan’s cooperation with the IAEA to a new level.
