Jakarta (WNAM MONITORING): Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana has said that the number of domestic tourists traveling during the Eid al-Fitr holiday this year is projected to reach around 140 million.
Nationally, 70 percent of tourists are predicted to vacation in Java island, while the other 30 percent will visit other regions, like Bali, she explained here on Friday.
“Usually, the (tourist) destinations visited are those in destination areas of homecoming exodus travelers,” she said.
According to Wardhana, there are several destinations that tourists vacationing with families target. In Jakarta, for example, some of these destinations are Ragunan Zoo, Ancol, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), Kota Tua, and Seribu Islands.
She noted that Ragunan Zoo is projected to record daily visits of up to 125 thousand people.
To ensure that travel during homecoming runs safely and comfortably amid uncertain weather, the minister appealed to all parties to diligently monitor weather forecasts and other information provided by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
She also appealed to regional governments, heads of tourism business associations, and tourism business players to adhere to the Tourism Minister’s circular on safe, comfortable, and enjoyable tourism activities during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period.
To support people’s travel, the government is covering part of the value added tax (VAT) for domestic economy-class airfare during the 2025 Eid al-Fitr homecoming exodus period.
The policy applies to all domestic economy-class air tickets purchased between March 1, 2025, and April 7 for flights scheduled between March 24 and April 7.
Under the policy, travelers are only required to pay 5 percent tax, while the government covers the remaining 6 percent.
