ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT): In a momentous ceremony held on Pakistan Day, March 23, 2025, Dr. Sulaiman Shahabuddin, President of Aga Khan University (AKU), was conferred the prestigious Sitara-i-Imtiaz award by President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari. This esteemed recognition acknowledges Dr. Shahabuddin’s remarkable contributions to the education and health sectors in Pakistan.¹
Under Dr. Shahabuddin’s visionary leadership, AKU has continued to uplift millions of lives and elevate Pakistan’s standing globally. His strategic efforts have secured significant local and international funding to advance development projects in Pakistan, focusing on healthcare, education, and climate resilience.
Dr. Shahabuddin’s impact extends beyond Pakistan’s borders, with collaborations in East Africa, the UK, Afghanistan, and other regions. He has fostered partnerships with renowned universities worldwide, including the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Michigan, and University of Washington.
AKU has also expanded its academic offerings under Dr. Shahabuddin’s guidance, launching the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in Pakistan in 2023. This initiative provides students with interdisciplinary education in humanities and social sciences.
Furthermore, Dr. Shahabuddin has spearheaded sustainability and climate action initiatives, including a 3.8 MW solar photovoltaic installation at AKU’s Stadium Road Campus and the President’s Challenge for Climate Solutions. These efforts demonstrate his commitment to shaping AKU’s future with purpose and excellence.
