ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT):Federal Ombudsman Ijaz Ahmed Qureshi has submitted the annual report of his institution for the year 2024 to President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari. The President of Pakistan, while appreciating the performance of the Federal Ombudsman, termed it as an extremely effective institution that is serving the people. During the meeting, President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari emphasized on further expanding the network of the Federal Ombudsman so that more and more people in remote and backward areas of the country can benefit from its services.
During the meeting, the Federal Ombudsman informed the President of Pakistan that his institution received record number of complaints during the year 2024, which was 226,372, which was 17 percent more than the year 2023. During the year 2024, decisions were made on 223,198 complaints, which was 16 percent more than the previous year. He said that this increase in complaints is the result of initiatives such as open courts, informal dispute resolution program (IRD) and inspections of government offices. The Federal Ombudsman informed the President of Pakistan that 93.21 percent of decisions have also been implemented, which shows how useful and effective this institution is for the public. Ijaz Ahmed Qureshi further said that the Federal Ombudsman’s Office is present in 25 cities of the country including Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, which is providing free and speedy justice to the people at their doorsteps and is truly a justice for the poor.
The Federal Ombudsman said that along with working for the welfare of children, this institution is also trying to resolve the problems of Pakistanis abroad and for this purpose, the institution has established unified convenience centers at all international airports of Pakistan, where representatives of all departments related to Pakistanis abroad are present round the clock and resolve complaints promptly. He also briefed the President of Pakistan about the significant role of the Federal Ombudsman in the Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA) and informed that Pakistan also holds the presidency of AOA and efforts are being made to highlight the concept of Ombudsman in Asia through this platform.
