Time was when Indo Pak sub continent ruled the roost in world’s hockey. It was the time when gold medal was either won by us or India at international level. Needless to say in good old days hockey at the international level was played after every four years only in Olympic games. In 1948 world Olympics held in London we were placed 4th in the world hockey rankings, in the Helsinki world Olympics held in 1952 we were placed third in hockey and we won bronze medal, in 1956 world Olympics held in Canberra our hockey team stood second on the victory stand by winning silver medal and then after four years we made it to the top by winning gold medal in hockey in world Olympics held at Rome.
There is a point in the plea of those who want start of joint Indo Pak hockey tournament every year turn by turn, one year in Pakistan and next year in India as it will result in the Renaissance of hockey in the sub continent where there is a lot of hockey talent.
The government should take a lead in the matter and allow PHF to send a team to India to participate in a hockey tournament scheduled to be held there in near future and coordinate with its Indian counterpart for putting meat on the proposal mooted in the above lines regarding holding joint hockey tournament between Pakistan and India every year.
