WNAM REPORT: The Alrosa company has completed the cutting process of the largest diamond in the history of Russia. The precious stone of a rare fancy shade Vivid Yellow weighs more than 100 carats.
The diamond was given the name “New Sun”, symbolizing the remarkable history of an exceptional diamond weighing over 200 carats and with a rich honey-gold color. The diamond, named “Dawn” for its shape, quality and sun shine, was discovered in the Arctic placer deposit Ebelyakh.
A team of 15 of the best Russian specialists worked on the creation of the unique diamond. The process included the creation of a three-dimensional model of the diamond, spectral analysis and the development of virtual projects of all possible shapes of the future diamond. To achieve the ideal balance of light reflection, color and play of shades, each facet was verified with maximum precision. The entire cutting process took more than two years.
Alrosa noted that the creation of this diamond marked a new stage in the development of the Russian school of gemstone cutting, Russian Cut, which is recognized as a standard throughout the world. The New Sun is considered one of the most significant achievements in the gemstone industry in recent years.
