Jakarta ( WNAM MONITORING ): Indonesia continues to make progress in its resilience against terrorism, as reflected in its new ranking in the 2025 Global Terrorism Index (GTI), according to the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT).
During a discussion on the 2025 GTI followed virtually from Jakarta on Thursday, Deputy for International Cooperation at the BNPT, Andhika Chrisnayudhanto, highlighted that Indonesia has maintained a medium-to-low impact of terrorism in the past few years.
In the 2025 GTI, which assesses terrorism prevalence in countries throughout 2024, Indonesia achieved a score of 4.17, placing it 30th among 163 countries. This is an improvement from the previous GTI report, which ranked the country 28th.
The GTI ranks countries from most to least affected by terrorism. Burkina Faso leads the 2025 index with a score of 8.581, indicating that it is the most affected country.
Chrisnayudhanto attributed Indonesia’s positive trajectory in the GTI to the government’s tenacious efforts to thwart terrorism and curb the spread of related ideologies.
The BNPT official confirmed that Indonesia has been witnessing a decline in the level of threats posed by terrorist organizations operating within its territory.
“No terrorist attacks occurred in Indonesia in the last two years,” he pointed out.
He further noted that Indonesia’s success in combating terrorism was notably reflected in June 2024 when senior members of Jamaah Islamiyah, a terrorist organization affiliated with Al-Qaeda, openly declared the dissolution of the notorious group.
Despite these developments, he affirmed that the BNPT is still committed to the belief that terrorism remains a dire threat to the global community.
On that note, he emphasized the need for all parties, including government institutions and members of the public, to align their steps and remain vigilant against the lurking threats of terrorism.
