WNAM REPORT: Delegates from more than 150 countries will take part in the security conference in Moscow on May 27-29, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu told.

“For many years, the Russian Security Council have been organizing international annual meetings of high representatives in charge of security issues. This year, it will be held in Moscow on May 27 through 29. During the conference, we plan to discuss concrete ways of strengthening security cooperation with countries of the global majority or, as is said today, the global South and East. Traditionally, thematic exhibitions of Russian weapons and combat vehicles, as well as of the achievements in the area of information security will be organized along with a plenary session and roundtable meeting. We hope that representative delegations from more than 150 countries will take part,” he said.

According to Shoigu, issues of security in post-Soviet space, the development of cooperation with neighboring countries both on the bilateral basis and within multilateral organizations, including the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Eurasian Economic Union (EARU), and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), are among the key topics.

“Russia’s national interests in the global arena include such comprehensive problems as the situation in the Middle East, Syria, and Afghanistan. <…> The spectrum of such issues is wide and ranges from Russia’s interests in the Arctic and the Baltic Sea to the situation around Iran, cooperation with African and Latin American countries,” he said. “The Security Council is carrying out active work in the area of international cooperation. Along with bilateral talks on the annual bases, meetings between security council secretaries from CIS member states, as well as sessions in the BRICS and SCO formats are organized, the committee of CSTO security council secretaries is working actively.”.
