WNAM MONITORING: At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to a reporter’s question asking for comments on information related to Vietnam – US relations, in the context of Vietnam celebrating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated:

The victory on April 30 was a victory of conscience and justice, ending the painful loss not only for the Vietnamese people but also for countless American families.

The past years have witnessed the great efforts of many generations of Vietnamese and American people to develop the relationship between the two countries to this day.

The occasion of April 30 is to honor the eternal values of forgiveness, peace, reconciliation and healing, and the spirit of leaving the past behind to look to the future.

From former enemies, Vietnam and the United States normalized diplomatic relations in 1995 and established a Comprehensive Partnership in 2013, and most recently upgraded the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development.

The continued strong development of Vietnam-US relations is in line with the common interests and aspirations of the people of the two countries and contributes to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region as well as in the world.

Also at the press conference, answering reporters’ questions regarding the invitation of soldiers from China, Laos and Cambodia to participate in the celebration as well as Vietnam’s invitation of US officials to attend the celebration and how it responded, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification is an extremely important event, especially important not only for the Vietnamese people but also has profound significance for international friends who have accompanied, supported and helped Vietnam in the resistance war for national independence, especially China, Laos and Cambodia, the three neighboring countries with traditional and long-standing friendship with Vietnam.

Ms. Pham Thu Hang affirmed: “We are pleased to have the participation of the Lao, Chinese and Cambodian military forces in the parade, demonstrating the increasingly strong solidarity, friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and these countries.”

According to the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at Vietnam’s invitation, many high-ranking delegations, political parties, representatives of a number of international organizations, peace movements, anti-war movements and international friends, including the United States, have confirmed their attendance at the celebration.
