WNAM REPORT: UNHCR Representative for Central Asia, Dumitru Lipcanu, highly appreciated the importance of the First Meeting of the Termez Dialogue on Connectivity between Central and South Asia, held on May 19-21.
“This event marked a significant stage in strengthening Uzbekistan’s role as a growing hub for promoting connectivity not only in Central Asia, but also in Southeast Asia and the broader Asian region”, he said.
Lipcanu stressed that the Termez Dialogue has become a platform that unites representatives of international organizations, think tanks, governmental and non-governmental structures, research institutes, and business circles.
“This meeting brought together a wide and diverse audience of professionals and public figures, whose ideas and initiatives will undoubtedly make a valuable contribution to strengthening international cooperation, promoting peace and developing constructive dialogue between countries, in full accordance with the theme of the conference”, noted the UNHCR Representative.
During the meetings, special attention was paid to the role of Uzbekistan in the development of transport and humanitarian connectivity, especially in the context of stability and sustainable development in the region, including Afghanistan.
“Uzbekistan plays a key role in developing regional ties, especially between Afghanistan and its neighbors. I am convinced that the country will continue to become an important participant in strengthening these relations not only within Asia, but also on a global scale”, Lipcanu stressed.
The prospects for developing international transport infrastructure, trade-economic ties, humanitarian cooperation, and a collective response to regional challenges were discussed during the Termez Dialogue.
