ISLAMABAD (WNAM REPORT): His Excellency Dan Stoenescu, Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan, paid a courtesy visit to the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) in Islamabad, where he held a productive meeting with Mr. Saeed Ahmed Shaikh, Director General of PBC. The discussions focused on exploring avenues for enhancing cultural and media cooperation between Romania and Pakistan.
Ambassador Stoenescu emphasized the vital role public broadcasting plays in fostering mutual understanding between nations. “I am pleased to meet you and express Romania’s interest in strengthening cultural and media ties with Pakistan,” he stated. “There is great untapped potential for collaboration between Radio Romania (SRR)/ Radio Romania International (RRI) and Radio Pakistan.”
The two sides discussed the possibility of establishing a formal cooperation framework between their respective public broadcasters.
Key areas of interest included content exchange in English and other languages, with RRI offering short radio segments focused on Romanian perspectives, news, and culture. In return, Romania expressed openness to broadcasting Pakistani content to increase awareness and understanding of Pakistani society among Romanian audiences.
Technical collaboration in digital broadcasting using the DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale) standard was also explored. Ambassador Stoenescu praised Pakistan’s advancements in DRM technology and expressed Romania’s interest in learning from PBC’s experience.
Discussions also touched upon the importance of informing migrant workers and the potential for joint initiatives to support Pakistani citizens working abroad through joint radio programmes in Urdu.
Finally, Ambassador Stoenescu underscored the importance of regional and multilateral media cooperation, noting that a successful partnership between PBC and RRI could serve as a model for other broadcasters in the Asia-Pacific region.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen collaboration and explore concrete steps toward formalizing media ties between Romania and Pakistan.
