WNAM REPORT: On June 24, Turkmenistan Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held telephone talks, following which they agreed to meet in the near future for annual bilateral consultations. The heads of the foreign policy departments exchanged views on a wide range of issues of bilateral and international cooperation.
During the conversation, the diplomats discussed key areas of partnership between Turkmenistan and the United States in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres. Particular attention was paid to the strategy for further development of bilateral relations.
The parties also touched upon current regional and international issues of mutual interest. In particular, the diplomats discussed the recent situation in the Middle East.
During the talks, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan, relying on the broad support of the international community for its neutral status, remains firmly committed to the principles of preventive diplomacy and is confident in the effectiveness of diplomatic methods for resolving any international issues.
