WNAM REPORT: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim convened at the Indonesian presidential palace on July 29 to discuss border-related issues and efforts to reduce the number of fishermen arrested in each other’s waters.
The meeting took place as part of the Malaysian PM’s visit to Indonesia on July 28–29 for the 13th annual consultation between the two countries.
Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Sugiono said the two leaders discussed the progress their countries have achieved over the past few months, including border negotiations and the reduction in the number of fishermen caught in each region, which had previously been a major issue between the two countries.
He added that the leaders also addressed the establishment of community learning centres for the children of Indonesian migrant workers in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak. These centres aim to ensure access to education for Indonesian children living in Malaysia.
On the occasion, PM Anwar also visited the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta on July 29. There, he called for continued efforts by ASEAN to promote strategic trust, dialogue, and unity in both words and actions to uphold the bloc’s centrality and build a strong, peaceful, and prosperous regional community.
