ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT ): The first group of doctors from Sindh has arrived in China to begin training in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The opening ceremony was held on August 11th at the first affiliated hospital Hunan University of Chinese Medicine.

Under this initiative, six Pakistani doctors, nominated by the Government of Sindh, are undergoing advanced training at the First Hospital of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine. The program is being supported by the Hunan University of Medicine and the Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, with the aim of building capacity for specialized TCM practice in Pakistan.

Speaking as Guest of Honor at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH, who initiated this program, stated that the Chinese Medicine (TCM) Practitioner Training Program for Pakistan marks a new chapter in the flourishing partnership between Pakistan and China in the field of healthcare and traditional medicine.

Dr. Choudhary highlighted the pivotal leadership of Prof. Dr. Xinmin Liu, whose efforts have resulted in the establishment of the China-Pakistan Joint Center for Traditional Medicine, the launch of joint research projects, and the creation of extensive training programs. He noted ongoing collaborations supported by NATCM and COMSTECH, which include technician and post-doctoral training, research in space medicine, AI in biomedical sciences, and joint projects at leading Chinese institutions.

He further appreciated the leadership of Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho and the Government of Sindh for their commitment to enhancing healthcare capacity in Pakistan by supporting the selection and training of Pakistani doctors in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Emphasizing the 70 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, Dr. Choudhary reaffirmed that both nations share a rich heritage of traditional medicine, including TCM and Unani systems, which have served communities for centuries. He stressed the collective goal of integrating the age-old wisdom of traditional healing with modern, evidence-based medical practices for the benefit of people in both countries.

The ceremony also featured speeches by, Mr. He Qinghu, President of Hunan University of Medicine; Mr. Yin Shengxin, First Secretary, Embassy of China in Pakistan; Mr. Khan Muhammad Wazir, Science and Technology Counsellor at the Embassy of Pakistan in China; Mr. Tan Hu, Secretary of the First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine; Mr. Hu Sha, Faculty Representative; Mr. He Ke, Director of the Comprehensive Department, Hunan Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine; and Dr. Dabeer Ahmed Khan, Trainee Representative.

Distinguished attendees included Mr. Tian Xuefei, Director of the International Exchange Office, Hunan University of Chinese Medicine; Mr. Du Qiaobei, New Drug Technology Research Institute of Ningbo University; senior scientists; and faculty members from both universities.

Dr. Choudhary concluded by expressing gratitude to the leadership of the Hunan University of Medicine and the Hunan University of Chinese Medicine for their commitment to advancing Pakistan-China cooperation in health sciences, and reaffirmed COMSTECH’s dedication to supporting impactful, people-centered scientific collaboration.
