WNAM MONITORING: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is planning to visit India on Monday, the Press Trust of India reported Wednesday.
Wang will hold the next round of special representative dialogue with Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on the countries’ border issues, reported the media outlet, citing sources.
Wang and Doval are special representatives on border issues between two Himalayan neighbors, and the meeting is expected to revolve around those matters.
The last meeting between Wang and Doval was held in Beijing this June.
The visit comes amid a warming up of ties, which were strained by border clashes in 2020.
Wang last visited India in 2022.
While the report didn’t mention any meeting between Wang and Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, the latter met China’s top diplomat in Beijing last month, on his first trip to China since 2019.
There was no official confirmation about the visit from either side.
Separately, Jaishankar is reportedly planning to visit Russia next week.
Earlier, media outlets reported that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit China to attend the annual Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit later this month.
Although no confirmation from either side was given, the Chinese Foreign Ministry later said that Modi is “welcome” to visit.
New Delhi and Beijing have cautiously worked to stabilize relations after a deadly border clash in 2020 killed 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir.
Last month, India resumed issuing tourist visas to Chinese nationals for the first time since 2020.
