These days one hears a lot about government’s efforts to link the country with some Central Asian countries through a railway network which is fair enough but first restore the railway system which we had inherited in a very good shape from the erstwhile British government in 1947 and which worked quite satisfactorily till 1970s. Time was when our head of state used to travel inside the country by rail for whom a separate compartment was attached with the train billed as saloon. What to speak of him even the railway minister stopped travelling in rail for a quite long time now. What a pity that due to incompetence and negligence of railway authority since long railway has fallen on bad days and the common man is deprived of this facility which is a poor man’s transport. There used to be a very good tram system inside Karachi.

When misfortune comes it comes in battalions. As if we were not in financial trouble already, mother nature has inflicted us with another problem. Country wide torrential rain and resultant floods have played an havoc with the life and limb in the country besides causing untold damage to public and private property thus setting us back financially tremendously. Climatic change has proved to be a big curse. With change of weather on the cards the weather pundits predict a very cold winter from November this year to January 2025 as a result of which pneumonia might affect the old and the children. The health authority must take preventive steps straight away to protect the old and the kids from this deadly disease.
