WNAM REPORT: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has successfully completed a three-month adult literacy course for its gardeners and security guards under the Adult Literacy Centre. A graceful certificate distribution ceremony was held yesterday with Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood as the chief guest. On this occasion the Vice Chancellor awarded certificates to the successful participants and appreciated their hard work and dedication.
He said that education is the fundamental right of every individual and it is a matter of honor for AIOU that it not only provides education to students but also creates literacy and learning opportunities for its own staff. Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood instructed the administrators of the Adult Literacy Centre to include professional training relevant to the employees’ work in the next phase so that they can perform their duties more effectively. He emphasized that true success is achieved when knowledge and skills are accompanied by positive attitudes. Training should be provided that not only brings positive change in employees’ lives but also makes them more useful and productive for others.
On this occasion, Director of the Adult Literacy Centre, Dr. Muhammad Ajmal Chaudhry said that the course will not only make participants’ practical lives easier but also give them opportunities to perform better at both personal and professional levels. He stated that there is no age limit for learning; if a person has passion and determination, he can achieve success at any stage of life. Citing an example, he said that Ihsan Elahi who works as a gardener at the university, learned reading and writing from this very centre and has now completed his matriculation. This proves that hard work and dedication always lead a person forward.
Dr. Tahira Bibi informed that the training course continued from November 1 to December 31, during which 25 employees acquired skills. She said that today we are gathered to celebrate this remarkable success.
The participants shared their impressions, saying that the course has given them new energy and confidence. They said they can now write cheques themselves, read signboards and newspaper headlines, which for them is a great achievement.
