WNAM MONITORING: Japan said on Wednesday that it will “assess” the meeting held by leaders of China, Russia, and North Korea during a massive military parade held in Beijing, Jiji Press reported.
“We will continue to gather and analyze information with serious interest to assess its impact on regional security,” Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi told a news conference in Tokyo.
His remarks came after Chinese President Xi Jinping hosted leaders from 26 nations, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, at a massive military parade in Beijing to mark the 80th anniversary of China’s victory in World War II.
The leaders of North Korea, China, and Russia made a historic appearance together for the first time in more than 60 years. The three stood side by side at the parade.
He also mentioned that the government has consistently communicated to China that Japan is a “peace-loving nation” dedicated to never repeating the tragedy of war, according to Japan Today.
Before World War II, Japan invaded a large part of China and occupied the Korean Peninsula from 1910 to 1945.
Beijing calls its victory in the 1937-1945 “War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression” and the “World Anti-Fascist War.”
The Chief Cabinet Secretary added that Japan and China align on the overall goal of promoting a “mutually beneficial relationship based on common strategic interests” and establishing “constructive and stable” bilateral relations.
