Jakarta ( WNAM MONITORING ): Prosecutors General from 10 ASEAN member states signed the Sanur Bali Declaration on Monday, pledging stronger cooperation in tackling cross-border crime, Indonesia’s attorney general said.
The declaration, endorsed at the ASEAN Prosecutors/Attorneys General Meeting (APAGM) in Bali, commits regional prosecutors to closer coordination in addressing transnational offenses such as online gambling, scams, corruption, money laundering, and cross-border asset smuggling.
“This declaration is not only a reflection of our shared commitment to fair law enforcement in ASEAN, but also an effort to mitigate modern crimes that transcend jurisdictions,” Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin said in a statement.
He stated that cross-border asset recovery would be key to fighting transnational crime, adding that effective coordination and collaboration were needed while respecting national legal systems.
Burhanuddin said APAGM would serve as a strategic forum to boost international legal cooperation, capacity building, and information-sharing among ASEAN prosecutors, in line with ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
Prosecutors general from Indonesia, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam attended the meeting, joined by delegations, representatives of Indonesia’s foreign ministry and officials from the attorney general’s office.
