WNAM REPORT: Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq has given tourism accommodation owners in Bali, such as hotels, three months to manage their waste.
Star-rated hotels are the initial target because they typically have high turnover, which means they also produce large volumes of waste and garbage. The ministry will then extend the policy to star-rated restaurants.
The government will require businesses to improve their waste management practices, and then assess and label hotels that meet the requirements.
Minister Nurofiq stressed that the waste crisis on Bali is at a very serious level, calling for tough measures to protect the environment and maintain the island’s reputation as one of Indonesia’s premier tourist destinations.
