WNAM REPORT: Usman Shaukat, President of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (RCCI), hosted a charity dinner at his residence to rally support from Rawalpindi/Islamabad’s business community for the Green Crescent Trust (GCT). The event was graced by Adviser to the Prime Minister on Tourism, Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, as chief guest. Also present were RCCI Group Leader and former President Sohail Altaf, GCT CEO Zahid Saeed, Station Commander Brigadier Ali Anjum Syed, SVP Khalid Farooq Qazi, VP Fahad Barlas, former RCCI presidents, executive committee members, Sarhad Chamber President Juanid Altaf, representatives from trade associations, and leading businessmen.
Addressing the gathering, Usman Shaukat lauded GCT’s work in building quality schools in underserved regions and emphasized RCCI’s commitment to supporting the Trust’s mission as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan urged the business community to take a proactive role in social transformation, advising industrialists to dedicate at least one per cent of their profits to charitable efforts aimed at enrolling over 26 million out-of-school children in Pakistan. He highlighted that with business support, GCT could more than double its number of charitable schools in Sindh and expand access to quality education across the country. The Adviser also appreciated GCT’s plan to extend operations beyond Sindh starting in 2026, marking a nationwide effort against illiteracy.
GCT CEO Zahid Saeed noted that the federal and provincial governments collectively spend a record Rs 3.2 trillion on education and health—surpassing Pakistan’s defense budget—and emphasized that transparent use of these funds could transform the nation. He expressed gratitude to Islamabad’s business community for supporting the enrollment of out-of-school children in Sindh.
Saeed shared that over the past 31 years, GCT has become a key force in educational uplift, operating 173 charitable schools with 34,660 students, over 40% of whom are girls. Among them, 2,150 orphans receive specialized academic and welfare support. The network is run by more than 2,000 qualified teachers committed to transforming the lives of children otherwise deprived of learning opportunities.
“Thanks to the generous support of our dedicated donors, GCT remains firmly committed to advancing its Vision 2030,” Saeed said, while also thanking RCCI President Usman Shaukat for his continued efforts in supporting education across Sindh.
