ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT):  The convocation of Allama Iqbal Open University (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chapter) took place  at Nishtar Hall, Peshawar. Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, was the chief guest of the ceremony. Vice Chancellor AIOU, Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood, presided over the ceremony.
In his address, Faisal Karim Kundi stated that AIOU’s educational services set an example for universities across the country. Providing free education to prisoners, children of martyrs, and transgender individuals is a significant contribution to the nation. Addressing the students, he said that receiving a degree is not the end but the beginning of a new journey; true success will come when your knowledge benefits others. He encouraged students to make education a means of positive change and to bring pride to the country and the nation.
Highlighting the university’s academic programs, he said: “Offering technical and professional training, digital education, and artificial intelligence courses at AIOU is a commendable initiative.”
Speaking at the event, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood said that, to date, five million students have graduated from this national university and are serving in various institutions across Pakistan. He added that this year, the number of students in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reached nearly 180,000, including 50% female students. “These numbers are not just statistics but a bright reflection of our commitment to promoting women’s education and empowerment,” he said.
Dr. Mahmood further mentioned that, in fulfilling its social responsibility, the university fully waived the fees of approximately 1,000 deserving students affected by floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reducing the financial burden on families and ensuring uninterrupted education for the students.
He also highlighted that providing free education at the matriculation level in the merged districts (former FATA) demonstrates the university’s strong commitment to educational equality, national unity, and the development of underprivileged areas.
The Governor and Vice Chancellor awarded degrees to the students, with top achievers receiving medals for their outstanding performance. Parents and families of the students attended the convocation in large numbers.
