Türkiye approves investment protection deal with Hong Kong, UN marine biodiversity agreement

Agreements signed in Ankara, Hong Kong, New York enter into force

WNAM REPORT: Türkiye on Saturday approved an investment protection agreement with Hong Kong and a United Nations marine biodiversity agreement, with the laws published in the Official Gazette and entering into force.

Approval was granted for the “Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Türkiye and the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China on the Reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investments,” which was signed in Ankara on June 1, 2023, and in Hong Kong on Oct. 31, 2023.

Separately, the “Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction,” signed in New York, US, on Sept. 27, 2024, was approved along with accompanying declarations.

Both laws entered into force upon publication.
