IESCO to further intensify crackdown against power thieves, defaulters: CEO

ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT): It has been decided to further tighten the noose around power thieves and defaulters. Chief Executive Officer IESCO, Engineer Ch. Khalid Mahmood, stated that IESCO is ensuring 100 percent implementation of the Federal Government and Ministry of Energy’s zero-tolerance policy against electricity theft and defaulters.
During the ongoing crackdown against electricity theft, fines exceeding Rs. 554.1 million were imposed on consumers involved in power theft across IESCO’s six operation circles, while 3,185 power thieves were arrested by the police. During the recovery campaign, recovery of more than Rs. 7000 million was ensured from over 230,000 running and dead defaulters.
He appealed to consumers to pay their electricity bills on time and to report any instance of electricity theft to the concerned SDO offices or the 118 helpline, so that a transparent and sustainable system can be ensured.
