ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT ): Chairman of the Pakistan Alternative Energy Association, Asif Javed, has expressed concern over the decision to shift net metering consumers who have regularized their capacity load to the net billing system. He said that this move could not only undermine the confidence of existing net metering consumers but may also have negative impacts on the promotion of renewable energy.

He stated that consumers who had invested in their systems according to their capacity load under the net metering policy did so based on the existing framework. If they are now shifted to the net billing system upon re-regularization, the payback period of their investment may increase and they could suffer financial losses.

He suggested that before making any changes to this policy, all stakeholders should be taken into confidence so that the promotion of green energy in the country is not affected. He further emphasized that steps should be taken to encourage renewable energy that restore consumer confidence and further promote the use of solar energy.
