Dialogue between ICCI President-Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue paves way for resolution of Jewelers issues

WNAM REPORT: President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Sardar Tahir Mehmood held a meeting with Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue Ms. Aisha Farooq at the Regional Tax Office Islamabad on Thursday to discuss issues being faced by the jewelers’ community of Islamabad, particularly those operating in Jinnah Super Market.
During the meeting, the ICCI President apprised the Chief Commissioner about the concerns of the jewelers regarding the mandatory 3 percent sales tax, installation of the Point of Sale (POS) system, and the sealing of certain business premises by officials of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
The Chief Commissioner patiently listened to the issues raised by the business community and assured full cooperation for smooth compliance with tax regulations. She emphasized that the business community is the real economic engine of the country and deserves due respect and facilitation. She further assured that the sealed premises would be de-sealed and such measures would be avoided in the future.
Both sides agreed to move forward in coordination in the larger economic interest of the country and decided to appoint focal persons to maintain effective communication. Acting President Traders Welfare Association Jinnah Super Market Faseeh Ullah Khan was nominated as focal person from the ICCI side, while Fatima Tariq, Assistant Commissioner Inland Revenue, was appointed as focal person from the FBR side.
On the occasion, ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood was accompanied by Acting President Traders Welfare Association Jinnah Super Market Faseeh Ullah Khan, Vice President Chaudhry Ashraf, General Secretary Abdul Rehman Siddiqui, Additional General Secretary Zohaib Ashraf Malik and other representatives of the traders’ community.
Earlier, a large delegation of jewelers from Jinnah Super Market visited the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and held a meeting with its leadership to discuss issues related to the Federal Board of Revenue.
The delegation also included President All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajraan Ajmal Baloch, President Jewelers Association Murree Road Rawalpindi Abdul Qudoos, General Secretary Rehan Javaid Rana, Senior Vice President Naqash Sheerazi and General Secretary Markazi Sarafa Association Rawalpindi/Islamabad Rehan Rabbani.
ICCI Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub and Vice President Irfan Chaudhry were also present on the occasion.
