Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto welcomed the visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday, March 27, 2026. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya referred to the moment as a meeting between two old friends.
“This evening, President Prabowo Subianto welcomed his old friend, who is also the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta,” said Teddy in a written statement on Friday.
According to Teddy, the meeting of the two state leaders went well. While chatting, Teddy said that Prabowo and Anwar Ibrahim also exchanged greetings in the context of the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriyah.
In addition, they also discussed the political dynamics, particularly the war between the United States and Israel against Iran in the Middle East. “As well as various strategic issues of mutual concern,” he added.
Teddy said the meeting between Prabowo and Anwar Ibrahim lasted for about three hours from 4:00 to 7:00 PM local time. After the meeting at the Palace, Anwar immediately headed to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta to return to Malaysia.
Teddy said that Prabowo accompanied Anwar to Halim Airport. “President Prabowo escorted the departure of PM Anwar Ibrahim in the same car to Halim Airport,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy.
According to the Presidential Secretariat, after the meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Anwar was accompanied by Prabowo as they walked to the vehicle. They continued conversing on their way to the vehicle while the song Rasa Sayange played to accompany Anwar’s departure.
Prabowo not only went up to the car but also escorted PM Anwar’s departure from the Merdeka Palace in the same vehicle. Upon arriving at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Anwar was greeted by a line of honor guards leading the way to the aircraft stairs.
Prabowo bid farewell to Anwar at the aircraft stairs. Moreover, several officials were seen bidding Anwar farewell under the aircraft stairs, among them were Foreign Minister Sugiono, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
From under the aircraft stairs, President Prabowo waved, which was reciprocated by Anwar from the aircraft door as a sign of parting. The aircraft carrying Anwar Ibrahim and his entourage departed from Indonesia at around 7:20 PM.
Anwar had previously landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, East Jakarta, on Friday afternoon. Foreign Minister Sugiono welcomed the Prime Minister directly. Anwar shared the moment of his arrival in Jakarta on his social media account X @anwaribrahim.
“Welcome to Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia, for a meeting with my friend, President Prabowo Subianto,” wrote Anwar in the post, Friday, March 27, 2026.
Anwar said he would use his meeting with Prabowo to fully discuss the conflicts in the Middle East. “As well as its implications for regional stability and the global economy, including its impact on Malaysia and Indonesia,” said Anwar.
Anwar visited Jakarta at the invitation of President Prabowo after the two had a phone conversation on March 23, 2026. The communication between the two state leaders was carried out in the context of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriyah.
