WNAM REPORT: Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo announced plans to issue a governor’s regulation (Pergub) to support the implementation of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on Electronic System Governance for Child Protection (PP Tunas).

“Following a meeting, the Jakarta provincial government has agreed to devise a Pergub as a derivative regulation to PP Tunas,” he remarked in Central Jakarta on Friday.

Wibowo noted that children and teenagers in Jakarta possess relatively high digital literacy compared to those in other regions.

This prompted the capital government to move quickly in enforcing the regulation which restricts access to certain digital platforms for persons under 16 years old.

“This move is crucial considering that underage children targeted by PP Tunas make up the majority of digital platform users,” the governor said.

He pledged full support for the restriction rule to strengthen child protection in the digital space across the province.

Previously, expert staff for public communication Chico Hakim emphasized that the administration would follow up through coordination among relevant institutions.

The Education Office and the Office of Communication, Informatics, and Statistics will lead these efforts to ensure a unified approach.

“Our concrete steps will include massive dissemination activities targeting parents, schools, communities, and neighborhood units through the government’s official channels, social media, and public forums, ” Hakim said on March 28.

The provincial government also intends to coordinate with digital platform operators to ensure compliance while enhancing digital literacy among families.

Hakim added that the Jakarta Education Office had already issued a circular letter providing guidelines for responsible gadget use on campuses, from early childhood education institutions up to senior high school.

“Teachers and principals will receive additional directives to limit gadget use during lesson hours by collecting devices in a dedicated place,” he explained.

The official further noted that educators are encouraged to intensify efforts to shield pupils from digital risks and engage them in meaningful offline activities.
