COMSTECH-Benadir University Oncology Training Program Concludes Successfully in Mogadishu

WNAM REPORT: A specialized five-day training dedicated to enhancing cancer care in Somalia has successfully concluded at Benadir University, Mogadishu, Somalia. Led by Dr. Asghar H. Asghar, a renowned Clinical Oncologist with over 25 years of expertise, the program comprised of technical training sessions to strengthen the country’s specialized medical workforce. The visit, organized under the auspices of OIC-COMSTECH, focused on critical areas of cancer diagnosis, clinical practices, and patient management.

During the visit, Dr. Asghar conducted intensive training modules and clinical interactions with local doctors and healthcare professionals. These sessions provided a platform for exchanging advanced methodologies in oncology, specifically tailored to the clinical needs and resource environments of public and private hospitals in Somalia. The importance of this training is underscored by the high level of participation from across the Somali medical community. Attendees included officials from the Ministry of Health, as well as representatives from both public and private hospitals and various medical universities within Somalia.

Another highlight of the visit was Dr. Asghar’s visit to the Ministry of Health, where he met with the Minister of Health. The discussion focused on establishing a sustainable roadmap for uplifting of oncology services in Somalia. Furthermore, Dr. Asghar held detailed discussions with the leadership of Benadir University to explore long-term academic cooperation.

This collaboration further solidifies the role of OIC-COMSTECH in the development and capacity building of the health workforce across Africa. By facilitating such high-level training programs, COMSTECH continues to fulfill its mission of fostering scientific and technological cooperation among OIC member states.
