Tashkent ( WNAM MONITORING): The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan has submitted a proposal to the Senate of the Oliy Majlis for the election of Robakhon Anvarovna Makhmudova to the post of Chairwoman of the Supreme Court of the country.

Personnel changes in the composition of the Supreme Court were considered on 18 June in Tashkent at a meeting of the Council of the Senate, chaired by Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairwoman of the upper house of parliament.

Following the meeting, the Senate adopted a resolution removing Bakhtiyor Jahongirovich Islamov from the post of Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The corresponding proposal for his removal had earlier been submitted to the Senate of the Oliy Majlis by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Islamov had headed the Supreme Court since August 2022. His five-year term was due to end in 2027, but the law allows for early termination of office by decision of the Senate on the recommendation of the head of state.

Robakhon Makhmudova has headed the Social Democratic Party “Adolat” since January 2024. She had previously been nominated as the party’s presidential candidate in the snap elections of 2023, in which she received 4.43% of the vote.
