WNAM REPORT: The Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection (KP2MI) has strengthened cooperation with the Albanian Government to expand overseas employment opportunities for Indonesian workers, particularly through the SMK Go Global program.
The cooperation was formalized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the placement and protection of migrant workers by Indonesian Minister of Migrant Worker Protection Mukhtarudin and Albanian Minister of Economy and Innovation Delina Ibrahimaj in Jakarta on Thursday.
“Certainly, we hope that migrant worker placements will begin soon, particularly under President Prabowo Subianto’s directive for the SMK Go Global program. Albania will be one of the destination countries,” Mukhtarudin said.
He said Indonesian workers placed in Albania would be skilled workers employed in the formal, non-domestic sector.
Therefore, the ministry is committed to continuously improving the quality of Indonesian workers, moving them from low-skilled to medium- and high-skilled employment.
In addition to expanding overseas employment opportunities, Mukhtarudin said the MoU would strengthen cooperation between the two countries in protecting Indonesian migrant workers.
The cooperation is in line with KP2MI’s commitment to strengthening protection for Indonesian migrant workers before, during, and after their placement overseas.
“Although there are currently not many Indonesian migrant workers in Albania, today’s MoU demonstrates the seriousness of both countries in ensuring that the management of Indonesian workers in the Republic of Albania becomes more coordinated and effective,” Mukhtarudin said.
The signing of the MoU follows President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Albania in July 2024, when he was still serving as Indonesia’s defense minister and president-elect following the 2024 presidential election.
During the visit, he met with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and President Bajram Begaj.
Meanwhile, SMK Go Global is a government program designed to help vocational school graduates secure formal, safe, and protected employment overseas.
The program provides skills training, international certification, and foreign-language courses. Through the program, KP2MI is targeting the placement of 40,000 prospective Indonesian migrant workers (CPMI) overseas this year.
