Iran and Saudi Arabia are both very intimate friends of Pakistan who have always stood by it through thick and thin. The tragedy is that both of them are embroiled in sectarian animosity to the extent that meat of one is poison for another. The recent tripartite defence accord among Pakistan Saudi Arabia and Turkey is modelled on the agreement among the European Union countries which stipulates that attack on any one of them will be considered as an attack on the entire European Union nations. Now therein lies the rub God forbid if there is a an armed clash between Iran and Saudi Arabia whose side Pakistan will be on? The answer to this question won’t be easy because Pakistan is a nuclear state now. Its tilt to any side won’t be short of a disaster for another. It is going to be a tight rope walking for Pakistan to stay away from it without annoying Saudi Arabia and Iran.
