WNAM MONITORING: Malaysia is targeting 500 billion ringgit ($120 billion) in semiconductor investments by 2030 as it seeks to strengthen its position in advanced manufacturing, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Wednesday.
Addressing a WorldSkills event in the Chinese financial hub of Shanghai, Anwar said Malaysia’s next phase of technical and vocational education and training reform, known as TVET 2.0, would bring industry closer to training institutions and accelerate their shift toward artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and renewable energy.
He said Malaysia’s comprehensive strategic partnership with China had also expanded opportunities for technical and vocational training.
Malaysia is also leading a regional green-jobs agenda to prepare Southeast Asian workforces for greener economies and has championed cross-border recognition of technical qualifications through the pilot ASEAN Digital Skills Passport, he added.
“A modern economy cannot function without the technicians who keep a semiconductor line running or an electric vehicle plant on schedule,” Anwar also said.
