Addis Ababa: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Demeke Mekonnen reiterated Ethiopia’s commitment to working for the realization of the newly entered all-weather strategic partnership with China. This was disclosed during the discussion Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Demeke Mekonnen held with China’s Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Xue Bing, today, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He further appreciated the continued development assistance of China to Ethiopia in various fields and its constructive role in Africa in addressing security, development, and governance challenges. Demeke also commended China’s principled support in multilateral forums, underscoring its support for Ethiopia to join the BRICS.
Demeke stressed the Ethiopian Government’s determination for the full implementation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement. China’s Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Xue Bing on his part commended the efforts made by the Government of Ethiopia to elevate the bilateral relationship between the two countries to the level of the all-weather strategic partnership.
He emphasized the role of Ethiopia in maintaining peace and development in the Horn of Africa and affirmed that the implementation of the peace process in the country is encouraging. The Special Envoy also underscored the need to hold the second China-Horn of Africa Peace, Good Governance and Development Conference.
