WNAM REPORT: Representatives of the mission to observe the elections of deputies to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Local Councils of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights completed their work in Tashkent.
In this regard, a meeting was held at the Central Election Commission with the participation of Mr. Douglas Wake, Head of the election observation mission from the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), his deputy Dimitra Ioannou, and Election Analyst Taylor Chris Taylor.
The mission included 17 experts of the core team members and 26 long-term observers.
On election day, 322 observers from 33 states were involved, including 223 long-term and short-term observers of the ODIHR and 56 delegates from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
Special Coordinator A. Guliyev headed the short-term OSCE mission. D. Wake, the ODIHR representative, began working in the country on September 23 this year.
During the observation, monitoring was conducted regarding preparation for the elections and compliance with OSCE commitments on holding this important political event, other international standards related to democratic elections, and provisions of the national electoral legislation.
The Statement of Preliminary Findings and Conclusions on Uzbekistan – Parliamentary Elections was presented at the meeting.
The head of the mission, D. Wake, expressing sincere gratitude for the meeting, noted that in recent years, the established and developing cooperation between the OSCE/ODIHR and Uzbekistan in elections serves to introduce best practices in accordance with modern trends.
At the meeting, the CEC Chairman thanked the partners for their work in the observation and monitoring process and stressed that the recommendations and proposals received would be considered when improving the electoral legislation.
During the conversation, the parties also discussed continuing practical cooperation between the CEC and the OSCE/ODIHR.
It should be noted that in the future, the OSCE/ODIHR mission will prepare a final report containing proposals and recommendations to improve practices in organizing and conducting elections and relevant legal documents.
