Political observers were right. Both the candidates for the President ship of US contested the recent election tooth and nail. Both of them, however, were certainly no patch on the former tenants of the White House like Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Jefferson and Roosevelt, the likes of whom have not been seen by the Americans since long.
Not only US, one finds lesser persons reaching the corridors of powers in many other countries since long. For instance France hasn’t seen a leader of the stature of de Gaulle, England that of Disraeli, Gladstone and Churchill, Yogoslavia that of Marshall Tito, Russia that of Stalin, Spain that of General Franco, Egypt that of Jamal Abdul Nasir, Cuba that of Castro, Indonesia that of Soekarno, South Africa that of Nelson Mandela, Pakistan that of Mohammad Ali Jinnah and India that of Nehru, the only exception being that of China which was lucky enough to have seen very competent ,farsighted leaders with a lot of political acumen coming to power after the demise of that illustrious leader Mao TSE Tung.
