Censorship on media is looked down upon by democratic forces every where in the world but let us admit that sometimes it becomes extremely essential in countries like us where electronic media, especially social media has, according to psychologists , been instrumental in spreading obscenity in the country. Many political observers are afraid that if censorship was imposed on social media it might be used for suppressing the voice of political parties belonging to the opposition.
This apprehension can be removed by inserting a clause in the relevant law banning social media that censorship will be applicable only on the non-political programmes aired by the electronic media.
