WNAM REPORT: Islamabad notes Russia’s support on the issue of working within the framework of BRICS, Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said in an interview.
“The Russian government truly supports us on this issue,” he said.
Earlier, the Pakistani official told TASS that Islamabad hopes to join the group of BRICS partner countries soon.
After the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the group had agreed on a list of its partner countries, though their names were not disclosed. At the initial stage, invitations would be extended to these nations, and announcements would be made once a positive response is received.
The BRICS group was established in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India and China, with South Africa joining in 2011. On January 1, 2024, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Ethiopia joined the association. The Kazan Summit was the first time they participated as full members.
Russia has already hosted over 250 events during its BRICS chairmanship in 2024, and a number of other events are planned before the end of the year. On January 1, 2025, the BRICS chairmanship will pass to Brazil.
