Jakarta (WNAM MONITORING):  Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir has emphasized that the double standards adopted in response to Israel’s genocide in the Gaza Strip could potentially erode trust in the multilateral system.
“The double standards currently on display in Gaza are damaging the multilateral system,” he said at the tenth emergency special session of the UN General Assembly to discuss Israeli actions against Palestinians, held in New York on Wednesday.
At the session, Indonesia also voiced regret over the repeated vetoes of eight UN Security Council draft resolutions to stop the violence in Gaza, as well as the bluntness of four UNSC resolutions that failed to be implemented effectively.
Legal products from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC) demanding accountability and an end to crimes against humanity have also not been complied with, he noted.
This has seemingly given Israel the “green light” to continue violence against the Palestinian people and violate international legal order, he added.
Nasir highlighted the Israeli violence in Gaza since October 7, 2023, which has left more than 44,500 people dead, most of them women and children, and emphasized that genocide has been perpetrated against the Palestinian people.
“If the killing of thousands of innocent people is not considered genocide, then what is the appropriate term?” he asked.
He also described Israel’s continued blocking of the entry of international aid into Gaza and its systematic efforts to discredit UNRWA, which is important for the lives of two million Palestinians, as regrettable.

“We share the loss of 333 humanitarian workers, including 249 UNRWA staff, while helping the people of Gaza. They were the last hope for the survival of the people of Gaza,” he said.
Therefore, Indonesia called on countries across the world to take concrete steps by stopping the delivery of weapons to Israel, implementing UN resolutions and world court orders effectively, and fighting for improvements in humanitarian conditions in Palestine.
He also urged UN member states to approve two draft resolutions to encourage a ceasefire in Gaza and political support for UNRWA in carrying out its duties. He said he believes that the realization of the two resolutions can restore trust in the world order.
Indonesia believes that the two-state solution is the only way to realize sustainable peace between Palestine and Israel, he emphasized.
However, the global community should immediately recognize Palestinian sovereignty unconditionally and without delay, he added.
