WNAM MONITORING: The National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, held a phone conversation during which they focused on water and environmental issues, as reported by the official media of Turkmenistan on Wednesday.
Both leaders emphasized the need to consolidate efforts in addressing water problems in Central Asia, highlighting the importance of international law, consideration of regional countries’ interests, and the role of the UN. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov reminded Tokayev of his initiative announced at the “One Water” summit in Riyadh and expressed confidence in the successful implementation of joint projects.
They also discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation in political, economic, and cultural-humanitarian areas. They noted that relations between Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan are developing dynamically, and regular high-level contacts strengthen their strategic partnership.
The National Leader of the Turkmen people praised Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea and assured Tokayev of Turkmenistan’s support for Kazakhstan’s environmental and climate initiatives.
To implement the agreements reached, both sides agreed to conduct consultations between the foreign ministries of their countries. They proposed to organize a meeting in Astana to discuss issues related to energy, transportation, and humanitarian cooperation.
At the end of the conversation, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev exchanged New Year greetings, wishing each other success and prosperity.
