WNAM REPORT: Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Commerce, visited National Textile University (NTU) Faisalabad today and received a comprehensive briefing on the university’s research, development, and innovation activities in the textile sector.
The Coordinator was briefed on NTU’s ongoing projects in sustainable textiles, technical textiles, smart materials, and eco-friendly processing technologies. NTU, Pakistan’s premier federal institution for textile education and research established in 1954, operates advanced facilities including the Central Hi-Tech Laboratory and the National Textile Research Centre, supporting industry collaborations for export enhancement.
Discussions highlighted NTU’s strong industry linkages, such as partnerships with Faisalabad-based textile mills for technology transfer and skill development programs that train professionals annually. The briefing also covered alignment with national export goals, including compliance with international standards like GRS and GOTS for sustainable production.
Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan appreciated NTU’s contributions to the textile industry, which accounts for over 60% of Pakistan’s exports valued at more than $15 billion annually. He assured continued support from the Ministry of Commerce for academia-industry partnerships to drive innovation and achieve $50 billion in textile exports by 2030.
The visit was attended by Mr. Naveed Gulzar, Chairman Board of Governors NTU; Mian Muhammad Latif, Member Board of Governors; Engr. Dean Zulfiqar, Member Board of Governors; all Deans, Heads of Departments, and senior faculty members.
