WNAM MONITORING; The fishery ES Elin Balyk, located in the Ak Bugday district of the Ahal velayat, is expanding its activities by venturing into the farming of freshwater royal shrimp (Rosenberg), as reported by the official media of Turkmenistan on Monday.
This species, native to Thailand, can weigh up to 100 grams and reach the size of an adult person’s palm. The company plans to experiment with growing vannamei shrimp, which inhabit saltwater.
To implement the project, entrepreneurs studied technologies in Iran and Thailand. As they expand their product range, they plan to increase their production area.
Currently, the farm raises carp, silver carp, white amur, African catfish, tilapia, and sturgeon. Its production facilities include six covered workshops, areas for breeding larvae, fry, and market fish, as well as a breeding stock. They recently built an incubation workshop equipped with technology from Russia, Iran, and Europe.
The enterprise employs eco-friendly technologies, including a closed-loop water supply system with minimal water loss (no more than 10%) and an intensive fish farming method without chemicals and antibiotics.
The farm, which has operated for over 10 years, sits on the 750th kilometer of the Garagum River and covers 130 hectares. It has access to 20 ponds with a total volume of 400,000 cubic meters. The government has provided the land for free use for 99 years.
