WNAM REPORT: The Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Pakistan, H.E. Irfan Neziroğlu, visited the headquarters of the OIC’s Scientific and Technological Cooperation Standing Committee (COMSTECH) on Thursday, where he held a detailed meeting with H.E. Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of COMSTECH.
During the meeting, both sides discussed various initiatives aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation between Türkiye and COMSTECH. They agreed to expand collaboration in academic exchanges, technological cooperation, education, and the health sector.
Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary proposed several key initiatives to further strengthen ties. One of the major proposals was the Türkiye-Pakistan Rectors Forum in Islamabad this year. This forum, will be organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Türkiye and COMSTECH, would bring together Rectors and Presidents of Turkish universities to engage with Vice Chancellors and Rectors of Pakistani universities, fostering academic and research partnerships and working together to lead in OIC communities.
Additionally, Prof. Choudhary highlighted COMSTECH’s recent initiative of 5,000 fellowships for Palestinian nationals and suggested that Türkiye could accommodate some of these students in its universities. He proposed that COMSTECH and the Turkish Embassy collaborate to facilitate this effort.
Another significant proposal was the organization of an OIC Techno-Festival in Türkiye, where leading technological parks from OIC member states would participate, showcasing advancements and fostering innovation-driven collaborations. Furthermore, Prof. Choudhary invited Türkiye to cooperate in COMSTECH’s Science and Exile Program, which focuses on supporting scientists and researchers from conflict-affected regions within the OIC.
Ambassador Neziroğlu highly appreciated COMSTECH’s contributions to scientific and technological cooperation within the OIC. He welcomed Prof. Choudhary’s proposals and assured that the Turkish Embassy would closely collaborate to implement these initiatives. He emphasized that technological cooperation is the need of the hour and reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with COMSTECH.
