Jakarta (WNAM MONITORING ): Three Indonesian citizens were awarded F-2-16 residency visas by the South Korean government in recognition of their efforts in rescuing individuals during a forest fire last March.
“We are immensely proud that these Indonesians, despite any challenges they may face, made a significant contribution to rescuing fire victims,” stated Zelda Wulan Kartika, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul, as quoted from the embassy’s press release on Sunday.
She made these remarks during the award ceremony for the three Indonesians – Sugianto, Leo Dipiyo, and Vicky Septa Eka Saputra – held at the South Korean Ministry of Justice office in Gwacheon on Friday.
The South Korean government presented the three Indonesians with certificates of appreciation and the special F-2-16 residency status, a visa granted to foreign nationals who make exceptional contributions to South Korea.
Kartika emphasized that the courage and selflessness of these three individuals not only positively impacted those they assisted but also served as a profound inspiration.
The three Indonesians played a crucial role in rescuing South Korean citizens when a devastating forest fire struck the Yeongdeok region in North Gyeongsang Province on March 25.
She highlighted their exemplary actions: Sugianto proactively warned residents and carried the elderly to safety; Leo Dipiyo rescued an elderly woman living alone; and Vicky Saputra assisted in evacuating trapped residents by boat.
According to her, their actions exemplify genuine humanitarian cooperation and a spirit of global solidarity, further enhancing the positive reputation of Indonesia in South Korea and globally.
“Their bravery and resilience saved many lives. In times of adversity, humanity and unity become an extraordinary strength, and these three individuals are truly inspiring,” she said.
