ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT ): The Republic of Tajikistan is set to host a pivotal three-day International Glaciers Preservation Conference in Dushanbe from May 29-31. The conference aims to raise awareness about climate change and water issues facing the region, with experts from international and regional countries coming together to discuss the pressing matter and formulate a future action plan.
Tajikistan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Pakistan, Sharifzoda Yusuf Toir, emphasized the importance of the conference, stating that regional countries are suffering from various environmental challenges and require a common plan of action to address them. With over 10,000 mountain glaciers in Tajikistan, including the massive Vanch-Yakh (Fedchenko) glacier, the conference will provide a roadmap for resolving the biggest challenge of climate change and water sustainability.
The conference will feature expert discussions, presentations, and a post-conference field trip to observe glacier degradation, integrated water resources management practices, and water-related sustainable development examples in Tajikistan. The event is expected to provide a unique platform for the world community to promote and facilitate actions towards preserving glaciers and its integrated management.
By hosting this conference, Tajikistan is taking a significant step towards addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development in the region. The country’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty will also be showcased, highlighting the importance of preserving both the environment and cultural traditions.
