RAWALPINDI ( WNAM REPORT ):  Dr. Obaidullah, Chief Executive Officer of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), paid an official visit to the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) to discuss avenues for deepening collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry.
Dr. Obaidullah was warmly received by RCCI President Usman Shaukat, Group Leader Sohail Altaf, Senior Vice President Khalid Farooq Qazi, Vice President Fahad Barlas, former presidents, executive committee members, and a significant number of stakeholders from the pharmaceutical sector.
During the meeting, President Usman Shaukat emphasized RCCI’s commitment to promoting export-led economic growth, highlighting the pharmaceutical sector as a key pillar for regional development. He called for stronger regulatory support to enhance the industry’s global competitiveness.
Dr. Obaidullah reaffirmed DRAP’s commitment to building a modern and efficient regulatory environment. “We must move beyond a stagnant mindset and make our domestic regulatory environment more conducive to growth,” he stated. He also reiterated that DRAP is undergoing a major transformation to align with the Prime Minister’s vision of regulatory reform and ease of doing business.
Key updates shared by Dr. Obaidullah include: 50% completion of DRAP’s digital transformation, Automation of medical device licensing expected by July 20 and Import/export processing time reduced from 10 days to just 3 days.
He also spoke about DRAP’s ongoing Medical Devices Roadshow, aimed at enhancing regional competitiveness, lowering business costs, and building industry capacity. Furthermore, he announced that DRAP is actively pursuing international accreditation, including alignment with World Health Organization (WHO) standards.
As part of the visit, an orientation session on DRAP’s Medical Devices Online Software Application was held. This session aims to streamline the registration process and reinforce regulatory compliance.
Dr. Fakhruddin Aamir, Director MEMC in coordination with Ata ur Rehman, Director MIS, DRAP conducted detailed presentation.
This high-level engagement underscores the shared vision of DRAP and RCCI to drive innovation, facilitate exports, and strengthen Pakistan’s pharmaceutical and medical devices sectors.
