The heat stricken common man was hoping to heave a sigh of relief with the advent of pre-monsoon and monsoon rains but instead these rains wrought havoc to property and human lives on a scale which wasn’t seen for many years in this country. These rains also exposed the claims of municipal institutions that they are keeping clean the outlets of rain water. They were caught by these rains with their pants down. It is not for the first time that their hollowness has been exposed. They have never kept clean the water drains with the result that whenever there is heavy down pour the roads of our towns give the look of water canals damaging them extensively as a result of which a heavy amount is then has to be spent on their rehabilitation after every rainy spell like the Bourbons our municipal authority has learnt nothing and forgotten nothing .
The issue of climatic change now stands added to the long list of problems which we, as a nation is facing. It is not going to go away if our municipal institutions didn’t take a lesson and take timely preventive measures before rainy season every year.

POSTSCRIPT

The proposed rail link between Pakistan Afghanistan and Uzbekistan is going to open new vistas of cooperation among these three countries in their economic field but extra care will be needed to prevent the terrorists from using this facility for entering into Pakistan for subversive activity. That is why a strict visa regime for those who enter Pakistan from Afghanistan should be put in place first before this rail link is made operational.

Washington fears the new developing cordiality among Iran, China and Afghanistan from which it feels threatened.

It was Khalil Jibran who had said woe betide the nation whose rulers are businessmen as when in power they will make money by hook and crook which they will then spend on elections to remain in the corridors of power always. This is exactly what this poor nation has been witnessing since early days of creation of this country after the demise of leaders who had been in the vanguard of Pakistan Movement.
