Birmingham ( WNAM REPORT ): Secretary General of United Business Group (UBG), Zafar Bakhtawari, visited the Birmingham City Council during his UK tour, where he met with the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Zafar Iqbal, and prominent British Councillor Waseem Zaffar.
During the meeting, Lord Mayor Zafar Iqbal warmly accepted Mr. Bakhtawari’s invitation to visit Pakistan, announcing his planned visit in October 2025. He expressed his eagerness to meet the people of Pakistan and engage in discussions on economic cooperation, trade opportunities, and community welfare.
Lord Mayor Zafar Iqbal, who hails from Chakswari, Azad Kashmir, emphasized the significant contributions of the British Pakistani community to the UK’s economy, development, and prosperity. “I consider it my duty to represent this community and work at every level to resolve their issues,” he remarked. He added that British Pakistanis are deeply loyal to the UK while maintaining a profound love for Pakistan, actively contributing to its economic progress as well.
The meeting featured an in-depth discussion on Pakistan’s current economic challenges and opportunities, along with exploring areas where the UK can extend its cooperation. Zafar Bakhtawari highlighted the UK’s role as a developed and globally influential nation, actively promoting economic stability, peace, and development worldwide.
He underscored the pivotal role of the Pakistani diaspora in the UK’s growth and called for increased direct investment by this community in Pakistan’s economy. Mr. Bakhtawari appealed to the UK to enhance its cooperation with Pakistan in key sectors like technology, education, healthcare, and industry, ensuring that Pakistan’s economy aligns with modern global standards.
The Kashmir issue also featured prominently in the discussions. Both leaders agreed that a lasting solution must be found in accordance with UN resolutions to ensure sustainable peace in the region.
Mr. Bakhtawari stressed that Pakistan’s private business sector can achieve a prominent position in the global market by learning from international best practices and adopting modern systems.
